Hello warm weather and bathing suits…can somebody say green smoothie time?
A green fruit and vegetable smoothie has become an essential part of my morning routine (or try this strawberry lemonade smoothie) When I’m not eating avocado toast or grits with honey, I’m opting for a light, nutritious fresh juice.
Actually, the lighter I eat in the morning, the more energetic I feel. A green smoothie for breakfast, a salad or bowl for lunch, and fish or chicken for dinner, and I’m golden.
Eating Light to Heavy
Over the years, I’ve experimented with clean eating in various forms. I went vegan for 7 years. I even did a 30 day juice cleanse – where I drank nothing but fresh fruit and vegetable juice. I’ve used different juicers over the years, and I still prefer my old Jack Lalannes juicer.
We detox while sleeping and continue this process well into the morning until we eat breakfast, or break the fast. This is why drinking a fresh juice in the morning is ideal – our livers get the extra time to continue the detox process.
You may notice increased energy when you sub this smoothie for breakfast. This is because we aren’t diverting energy away from our digestive systems by eating a heavy meal.
Just a quick note on the ingredients: this essential green smoothie recipe can be modified easily. Try adding fresh herbs, ice, or subbing coconut water for water for work out days.
